Meet the Team: Charlotte and Katy

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Shine team. With a lot of exciting things in the pipeline, we started by welcoming two new amazing Business Development Executives, Charlotte and Katy. Throwing both well and truly in the deep end, here’s what they thought of their first couple of weeks as part of our growing team:

Charlotte:

“Before starting at Shine, I was quite apprehensive as to how I would fit in with the team and how I would be able to build my knowledge on the specific areas of recruitment of which Shine provides solutions to. To me, one of the most important things for a good experience in a new role to me is that the company is a right culture fit for you, but that you are also a correct fit for the culture and existing team. This is something that the team at Shine are incredibly attuned to, with one of their company ethos’ being ‘People, not technology oriented’, as well as being strong believers of values based recruitment.

Being newly orientated into a new role means a lot of introductions, many new names, many strong cups of coffee, and a lot of asking questions, but thankfully, my first week was made to be much more relaxed as the lovely team at Shine made me and my fellow new starter Katy feel extremely welcome (starting with being greeted with a bottle of Prosecco and Ferrero Rocher… a very friendly welcome indeed!) as each of them allowed us to experience an insight into their role in the team, as well as the features of the video interviewing and values based recruitment within the Shine platform and how this benefits many leading companies.

Armed with this knowledge and our new orange Shine themed polo shirts, emblazoned with our names, it wasn’t very long before the Shine team were on a train headed down from Newcastle to London, to the In-House Recruitment Expo at the London Olympia, to exhibit Shine Interview and all we have to offer. Led by our CEO, David Copple, and Head of Sales, Pete Marshall, Katy and myself were in fantastic company and very excited at the prospect of hitting the ground running with our first exhibition with Shine and meeting lots of new faces in the world of recruitment and talent acquisition – less than a week after our very first day!

After all, what better way is there to connect with new business contacts, and to bond with your new colleagues than to travel together and spend most of the week together representing and showcasing Shine? To be truly thrown into the deep end is one of the best ways in which to learn and adapt in a new role; believing in your abilities, focusing on your strengths, learning and adapting, and using all your newly found knowledge will make any change easier to conquer.”

Katy:

“Starting a new job is always daunting, but within my first few hours at Shine Interview I knew I had made the right decision. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a prosecco and chocolate welcome?!

The induction week was spent learning everything Shine Interview, which involved lots of reading and practicing with the software. I admit this is not the most riveting aspect of a new job, but it became invaluable when, within a week of my start date, I was whisked off to London to discuss Shine software at the In-House Recruitment Expo; discussing all things video interviewing and value-based recruitment.

I have experience of exhibiting previously, but I thoroughly embraced being thrown in at the deep end; I am a big believer in the ethos that you learn by doing. I left the two-day event with lots of new connections and several exciting leads to get my teeth into.

The trip to London, alongside Pete, David and fellow newbie Charlotte, was also a brilliant way to integrate the new sales team. What a better way to get to know your new colleagues than spending days showcasing Shine Interview software, and evenings bonding over excellent barbeque food and several beers - massive shout out to Big Easy Bar BQ & Crabshack and The Chelsea Ram for keeping us fed and watered during our trip!

Shine Interview may be a small team, but everyone is full of motivation and have welcomed me with open arms. Together we attended a ‘Selling at a Higher Level’ training day, courtesy of our client durhamlane. Our trainer, Luke Robinson, gave me so many sales tips and tricks that I had never thought to use before, as well as making the whole day enjoyable. There is nothing worse than sitting all day being bored to tears! I have never received training at any of my previous jobs, so I very much appreciate the opportunity Shine Interview is giving me to grow my knowledge and be the best Business Development Executive I can be.

The past couple of weeks have gone so quickly, and although they have been busy and tiring, I know I am going to enjoy working alongside the team here.

Now if you excuse me it is time for me to knuckle down and get to work!”
